Volleyball Manitoba President Steps Down

At the last board of directors meeting in March, the Volleyball Manitoba President Michael Stephens announced his resignation from the position and the board. Mike was first elected to the Volleyball Manitoba board in 2010, and had served in the President capacity since 2012. Mike helped steer the association through a challenging period of financial instability and staffing turnovers.

‘I am proud of the positive changes that we have made and the organization is at a much better place than we once were’, stated Michael Stephens. ‘We have made positive steps to rectify our financial position, increased the efficiencies of the association and now have a strategic plan to guide us into the future.’

‘I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of these positive changes, but time commitment has become an issue for me.’ Michael added. ’The President’s role is vitally important to help move the organization forward, and out of fairness to the association, it’s members and myself, I feel this decision and change was needed. It has been an honour and pleasure to work with such dedicated and passionate people both from within the association and stakeholders at large. Our sport is in good hands.’

Volleyball Manitoba would like to express our sincere appreciation to Michael for his years of service and leadership and we know we can solicit his support and feedback when needed. With the stepping down of Mr. Stephens, the Vice-President Brenda Westwood will serve in the President capacity on an interim basis until a new President is determined following our Annual General Meeting in September.
