Team Manitoba Beach Volleyball 2017

Beach Volleyball in Canada is on the rise.  With strong international results from our Beach teams at the Rio Olympics and on the FIVB World Tour, more and more young players are becoming interested in the beach game and are looking for opportunities to participate.

As a late specialization sport, the pathway to play beach volleyball on the National Team begins at about 19 or 20 years old in Canada and usually involves indoor athletes transitioning to the Beach game in the off-season or once they complete their Indoor careers. Rio Olympian Sarah Pavan for example, has played on both the indoor and beach National Teams and played indoor professional volleyball and the FIVB World Beach Tour in the same year.    Volleyball Canada believes that young athletes should be exposed to both disciplines, and ideally should participate in both as a means of complimentary training.

Currently, Western Canada Summer Games and Canada Summer Games are the only beach volleyball events where teams are selected by their Provincial Associations. Volleyball Canada Beach Nationals and Volleyball Manitoba Beach Provincials are open events that any Beach team can participate in, regardless of where or how much they train.  Athletes are encouraged to participate in the training program that best suits their needs, and we encourage all athletes to participate in Provincials and Nationals.

The 2017 Team Manitoba Beach Volleyball Program is designed to provide each athlete with a positive learning environment and the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the beach game

The goals of Team Manitoba beach volleyball programs are to:

  1. Introduce athletes to beach volleyball who have no or limited previous experience.
  2. Introduce beach volleyball to indoor volleyball athletes who are looking to transition or improve their skills and fitness over the summer months.
  3. Work with athletes who have previous experience playing beach volleyball and are looking to improve.
