Team Canada Volleyball 1992-2016 Celebration

After hosting the national team programs in Winnipeg since 1992, the Women’s National Team has now officially moved west to establish their home base in Richmond, BC. This follows the move of the men’s team to Gatineau, QC in 2008, after calling Winnipeg their home training base starting in 1997.

During this time, a small outdoor volleyball tournament and party called Superspike started in 2001 with a modest 36 teams playing at The Forks in an effort to support the national team programs. 15 years later, close to 500 teams participate in July at Maple Grove Rugby Park, and this past year the event surpassed the $1 million mark in proceeds raised for Team Canada Volleyball.

In recognition of these past 24 years of supporting and serving the national teams, Volleyball Manitoba is inviting past volunteers, staff & athletes to a celebration get together on Saturday, January 28, at the University of Winnipeg as the Wesmen volleyball teams take on the University of Saskatchewan.

All past volunteers, staff and athletes are invited to attend the get together to watch some university volleyball, with a small reception planned in between the men’s match (5pm start) and the women’s match that will follow.

For those able to attend and join the opportunity to reminisce on past national team events and activities from the past quarter century, we ask you to please RSVP by Friday, January 20, to volleyball.ed@sportmanitoba.ca.

Thanks very much, we hope to see you on January 28!
