Manitobans earn Gold, two Silvers at Canadian Youth Beach Volleyball Championship this past weekend

Volleyball Canada held its Canadian Youth Beach Volleyball Championship at Ashbridges Bay Beach in Toronto this past weekend, with 150+ teams overall competing including 8 from Manitoba in the 22U Male, 18U Female, 16U Female, 15U Female & 14U Female divisions.

In the 22U Men’s competition, the pairing of Dustin Spiring & Adam DeJonckheere of Winnipeg earned the Gold medal with a revenge win against Abrams/Kerr from Ontario, a team they had earlier lost to in the power pool phase of the competition. Finishing in 3rd was the team of Callaghan/Shannon from Nova Scotia.

In the 18U Female division with 25 teams competing from 8 provinces/territories, the tandem of Josie & Kearley Abbott of Winnipeg advanced through the competition undefeated until the Gold medal match, when they fell to the team of McBain/Monkhouse from Ontario. Finishing in 3rd was Kells/Madill from Ontario.

The 15U Female division had 26 teams competing from 6 provinces, with Anna Maidment (Winnipeg) and Erika Vermette (Morris) also going undefeated throughout the tournament until the final match, losing a close final to Armstrong/Torres from Ontario. Finishing in 3rd place was Imbriaco/Georgiadis from Ontario.

Other teams from Manitoba that competed this past weekend included Gonzalez/Gonzalez in the 14U Female division, Hamm/Nault & Elliott/Nichols in the 16U Female division, and Yaeger/Patrick along with Beatty/Woodward in the 18U Female division.
