2017 Canada Games Indoor Program Outline

2017 Canada Summer Games – Program Outline – Indoor

1) Athlete Identification – Athletes born in 1999 or later, who are interested in being considered for the 2017 Canada Summer Games indoor teams and who did not participate in the Canada Games Fall Training Program or 2016 Team Manitoba 18U Provincial Team program should complete the 2017 Canada Games Athlete Identification Form and should attend the Open identification camp. If you are unable to attend the open ID session, please complete the Athlete Identification form and select Interested but unable to attend option.

* Athletes who registered and participated in the Canada Games fall training program do not need to register again and do not need to attend the open ID camp *

Female Open ID CampWednesday January 4th, *UPDATE* Thursday January 5th, 2017 10:00am-12:00pm Red River College North Campus.

Male Open ID CampSunday January 15th, 2017.  12:30-2:30 St. Paul’s High School – Richardson Gymnasium

 

2) Canada Games Winter Training –   Identified athletes will be invited to attend training sessions with the Canada Games coaches as part of the player evaluation and team training process.  There are a limited number of spaces available in each session for open athlete identification.

3) Team Manitoba Winter Strength and Conditioning

Athletes will follow a 10 week volleyball specific strength program to help build strength, power, and durability leading up to the 2017 Canada Games.  The program encompasses multi-directional exercises that focus on strength gains and reducing asymmetries through movements relevant to the athlete’s sport.  Athletes will have 3 sessions per week and must attend a minimum of 2.  Training dates are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5-6pm or 6-7pm at the Canada Games Sport for Life Center.  Training Sessions begin on February 14th and complete on April 21st.

The strength coaches will work closely with each athlete to manage volume and load throughout the club season. Workouts are designed to be efficient and athletes will be able to strength train and practice in the same night.  Options are available for athletes to follow the strength program while training offsite if required.

4) Canada Games Final Selection CampIdentified athletes will be invited to attend the final selection camps.  The Boys Camp will be held on June 3 and 4 in Winnipeg and the Girls Camp will be held on May 13 and 14 at Dakota Collegiate (Times TBC) in WinnipegAn athlete can be identified for participation in the final selection camp through attending an identification camp, past provincial team involvement, or direct coach recommendation. At the conclusion of these camps, 12 athletes will be named to the Canada Games team along with alternates. 

 

5) Canada Games Training – Team training will begin in June following the final selection camp.  For the month of June, training volumes will be reduced as athletes complete exams and are involved in graduation ceremonies.  Regular team training will begin in July with the expectation that athletes will make the Canada Games program their top priority.

 

6) Pre-CompetitionBoth the male and female teams have been accepted to participate at the 2017 US High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from July 16-23, 2017.

 

7) Canada Summer Games August 6th-13th, 2017 in Winnipeg.

 

The cost of this program is expected to be $1900 (which includes all training (facilities, coaching, etc), uniforms / clothing, travel and accommodations for the US HP Championship and the Canada Games fee of $300).
