Volleyball Manitoba is proud of the quality of the Athletes produced in the province. Manitoba has a strong history of developing some of Canada’s top volleyball players. Many of our athletes have gone on to long and rewarding University and College careers, with some continuing on to play professionally or for Canada’s National Team. This is due in large to the quality of coaching, the high level of competition played at, and the elite experiences that our athletes receive.

Each year Volleyball Manitoba contributes to the continued development of our High Performance athletes by running a Provincial Team program. The goal of the program is to provide our top athletes with a high level development opportunity. They receive coaching from some of Manitoba’s best coaches, play with and against the best athletes from across Manitoba & Canada in their respective age category, get an opportunity to represent their province on Team Toba, build lifelong friendships, and build life skills that will benefit them in the future.

Selection Process:

Interested athletes in all age categories are encouraged to attend a Team Manitoba Athlete Identification session during the months of February-April. Identified athletes will be invited to attend the Team Manitoba selection camp to be held May 28/29 at Red River Community College in Winnipeg. Athletes receiving invitations to this camp have been identified by Provincial Team coaches at previous ID camps or other age class competitions. Athletes can expect to receive invitations to the final selection camp the week of May 9-13, 2016.

Team Composition:

The NTCC competition uses age group classifications similar to those used by FIVB. These age-group classifications govern international competition and all levels of high performance programs. For the purposes of the Provincial Team programs athletes are classified according to their birth year. Please note that these age-group classifications differ from Volleyball Canada’s age class club definitions which use a 16 month window for age eligibility. Athlete selection will be based on performance and perceived potential and not simply on the age of the athlete. Athletes in the lower range of the age group are encouraged to attend ID camps.

Training Outline:

Athletes selected to the Provincial Team programs will be expected to attend Team Manitoba performance training camps June 18/19 and June 25/26 in Winnipeg. All athletes will be put through physical testing protocols, performance education sessions and on court training.

Athletes will be placed into teams following the performance training camps. Team training will begin in late June with the main training block running from July 3 – 12.

In the event we are only able to travel with a single team in each age category, the remaining players may have the opportunity to continue to train in Winnipeg until the completion of the NTCC tournament (July 17th) to be able to achieve a similar training volume as those attending.

Team Travel:

All teams will travel by air to Kingston or Vancouver. 1-4 teams travelling for each gender depending on budget.

Cost:      Final Costs TBD. Expected to be in the range of $1400-$1600.
