EVENT HAS NOW SURPASSED ONE MILLION DOLLAR MARK IN FUNDS RAISED FOR LOCAL COMMUNITY

Winnipeg – MTS Super-Spike presented by Bud Light, is thrilled to announce that with 470 teams taking part and over 7,000 in attendance this year, the event was able to raise $100,000 in support of the National Women’s Volleyball Team.  2016 MTS Super-Spike which took place July 15th & 16th at Maple Grove Rugby Park, combines Western Canada’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend-long concert series, all set in a festival atmosphere.  Over 950 games of volleyball took place over the two day event, with ten different bands & various DJ’s performing at what has become one of Manitoba’s premiere summertime festivals.

2016 marked the fifteenth edition of MTS Super-Spike, and with this year’s $100,000 total, the event has now surpassed the one million dollar mark in total revenues raised with $1,040,000.  These revenues have helped fund and support the Winnipeg based National Women’s Volleyball Team for over a decade. Although the National Women’s Volleyball Team will be relocating to Richmond B.C. at the end of the year, Super-Spike will continue running in Winnipeg and moving forward beginning in 2017 will be reallocating it’s funds towards numerous new Winnipeg based charities which will be announced later this year.

“We are extremely excited at the amount raised this year, especially knowing that for the first time in over ten years rain unfortunately played a part in our event” stated Event General Manager, Greg Paseshnik.  “To have now raised over one million dollars in support of our Winnipeg based National Women’s Volleyball Team through the event is a very special accomplishment that all our volunteers, participants, sponsors and supporters should take pride in.”

“We are going to miss having the National Women’s Volleyball Team in our community moving forward, but are extremely excited with the new direction Super-Spike will be taking in supporting multiple new charities beginning in 2017,” added Paseshnik.  “We expect to leave an even bigger impact in our community by partnering with multiple new charities each year as beneficiaries of the event.”

Special thanks to 2016 event title sponsor MTS, presenting sponsor Bud Light, Stage Sponsor Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries and Volunteer Sponsor Birchwood KIA.
